|Elementary music concerts coming up|
The Chase County Schools elementary vocal concerts will be split in two this month, with younger children performing May 16 and older ones on May 20.
Grades K-1 will be presenting “Bugz” May 16 at 6 p.m. During a picnic the ladybugs tell everyone how to behave, the fireflies light the way and the army ants organize the picnic.
Stink bugs, praying mantises and butterflies are also involved.
At 6:30 that same night grades 2-3 will perform “Tall Tales and Heroes,” stories about some favorite heroes and folk heroes such as Molly Pitcher, Johnny Appleseed, John Henry, Paul Bunyan and Calamity Jane.
The main theme of the show is that anyone can be a hero.
The theme for the May 20 show is “Jazz!” Fourth grade students will perform at 6 p.m., accompanying songs such as “Button Up Your Overcoat” and “When the Saints Go Marching In” with their recorders.
At 6:30 p.m. that same night, grades 5-6 will perform a number of jazz standards such as “Route 66,” “Birdland” and “Tuxedo Junction.”
“We hope the public will join us for these 30-minute reviews of America’s music,” elementary vocal teacher Jodi Liess said.
