Chase County’s track teams finally saw some decent weather Tuesday when they competed at the rescheduled Perkins County Invitational in Grant.
The meet was originally set for last Thursday, but was moved to Tuesday due to poor weather.
Chase County finished fourth in the girls’ division and was eighth in the boys’ meet. More details and the full Longhorn results will be in next week’s issue.
The teams will be home next Thursday for the Imperial Invitational.
Two meets ahead
The Longhorns have a busy week with two meets on the schedule in the coming week.
This Friday, the teams will be at the Sutherland Invitational, which has a 9 a.m. (MT) start for field events. Running events will start at 10:30 a.m.
This is a new meet for the Chase County teams this year, and replaces the Gothenburg Invitational the teams have attended in the past.
Then on Tuesday, Chase County will host the Imperial Invitational, at which seven other teams are expected.
The first session of field events gets underway at 9 a.m., with the running events slated for a 10 a.m. start.
This year’s Imperial meet will be the first time for use of the new scoreboard installed at the track and football field this year.
Activities Director Mark Bottom said the scoreboard has a feature that will clock the running events, but those will be the unofficial times. The official finish times will still be recorded at the finish line, Bottom said.
It will be a nice feature for the crowd, Bottom said.
The new concession stand and restrooms near the pool will be open, as well, for the first time and the athletes will be able to access the lockerrooms there.
