Starting Monday, the Chase County Schools activity calendar has five dates reserved for music concerts in May.
A grade 5-6 and 9-12 band concert, under the direction of Agnes Strand, is the first concert of the group this Monday, May 6, starting at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
Fifth grade, sixth grade and high school bands will perform, in addition to the high school’s Simply Jazz group.
Strand said the high school band and Simply Jazz will play their district music selections, the fifth grade will do a compilation of songs from their book, while the sixth graders will play one song from their book and one  pep band song as they prepare to be part of next year’s pep band.
The junior high band will give its “concert” at CCS graduation ceremonies Saturday, May 11, when they play 30 minutes before the ceremony. Music will start at 4 p.m.
Tuesday, May 7, is set aside for the grade 7-12 vocal music concert directed by Randy Hayes, starting at 7:30 p.m.
The junior high chorus and show choir, the high school chorus and 9th St. Singers all will perform recent contest selections on Tuesday.
The 9th St. Singers will present their end-of-year concert Friday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m.
Their finale for the year will include all group songs performed the past year, and several solos and small ensembles put together especially for this program, Hayes said.
Seating is often at a premium for the show choir concert. Current senior singers and underclassmen will be allowed a limited number of reserved seats, Hayes said. The auditorium will be opened up at back to allow more attendance.
The elementary vocal concerts are set for May 16 (K-3) and May 20 (4-6). More on their concerts will be in next week’s issue.
