Music students take spotlight at districts PDF Print E-mail

Every instrumental and vocal note was scrutinized Friday by judges as Chase County Schools hosted the District 5 Music Contest a second consecutive year. More than 500 students from 12 schools brought solo, ensemble and large group numbers to be rated by eight adjudicators. CCS students did well, receiving 20 superior ratings (the highest given) out of its 31 entries. Among the CCS students and groups earning top scores were the 9th St. Singers show choir, Emma Bauerle (at left) with her alto sax solo and, below, Sheldon Bartholomew, who was part of the percussion ensemble earning a superior. As always, CCS band director Agnes Strand gives one of her students some hearty applause after a solo number. Randy Hayes, 7-12 vocal music director, coordinated the contest with the help of staff and administration. See more on the district contest inside. (Republican photos)
