The first three days the new Tequilas Mexican Grill was open in Imperial were “crazy,” according to owner Miguel Esparza. He and wife Gabriella Hernandez opened their second restaurant Friday night.
Their first restaurant is in McCook. Both places serve Mexican food such as burritos, fajitas, specialty plates and seafood, steaks, grilled chicken and combination plates.
Tequilas in Imperial is open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Giovanny Hernandez, a brother-in-law, is managing the restaurant, located in the former Smokin’ Leroy’s location at 140 E. 12th St.
There are 10 employees, four of whom are Imperial residents.
Esparza said Tequilas will obtain its liquor license May 5, at which time margaritas and other beverages will be sold.
“It’s been very, very, very busy,” he said.
