Music students from 12 southwest Nebraska high schools from Classes A, B, C and D will be in Imperial Friday for the District 5 music contest.
Randy Hayes, 7-12 vocal music director at Chase County Schools, is coordinating the contest expected to draw 555 student musicians, both instrumental and vocal.
Classes will not be held at Chase County Schools on Friday to make rooms available for the competition.
Schools can bring up to 30 entries total for the contest, divided how their directors choose between their vocal and instrumental students.
The day starts at 8 a.m. with the concert band performances in the Shorthorn gym, where the jazz bands will also perform. All of the chorus and show choir performances will be in the auditorium.
Here are Chase County Schools’ times for the large group numbers:
8:39 a.m. CCS concert band
9:45 a.m. CCS chorus
11 a.m. 9th St. Singers
12:30 p.m. CCS jazz band
Besides the host school, other schools coming to districts on Friday are Arapahoe, Cambridge, Dundy County/Stratton, Hayes Center, Hitchcock County, Eustis/Farnam, Medicine Valley, Maywood, Wauneta/Palisade, McCook and Southwest.
This is the second year Chase County Schools is hosting the contest. For 2014 and 2015, it will likely return to McCook, Hayes said.
The high school district music contests are among the events overseen by the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA).
