Young wrestlers participate in Nebraska USA state tournament
On March 16, three junior high wrestlers from Chase County traveled to the Nebraska USA State Wrestling Tournament. In order to qualify for the state tournament wrestlers had to place in the top four spots at the district tournament held in Kearney.
Four wrestlers qualified, but only three were able to attend the meet. Bryson Fisher, Aaron Hinojosa and Jorge Cervantes all placed second and Caine Haarberg had a third to qualify for the state tournament. Cervantes was unable to attend.
Hinojosa competed in the 195 pound division, coming home with third place, having lost his only match to eventual Champion Bailey Thompson.
Fisher competed in the 140 pound division and came home with a fourth place finish.
Haarberg didn’t place losing his first two matches of the tournament.
Results are as follows:
Aaron Hinojosa pinned Carter Hunzeker (Fall City), with a time of 1:30; was pinned by Bailey Thompson (O’Neill), 4:00; won by forfeit against Andrew Harrah (NE City); pinned Ean Ramussen (Bennington), 2:11, for third place.
Bryson Fisher had a bye; pinned Cody Ybarra (Scottsbluff), 3:25; dec. Johhy Gill (Auburn), 2-1; dec. Breydon Miady (Atkinson), 5-1; dec. by Darrell Coleman (Meneely), 3-4, for fourth place.
Caine Haarberg pinned by August Yoder (Bennington) 0:19; had a bye; pinned by Noah Patton (Seward), 0:49.
