Registration underway for three of concealed carry classes in April PDF Print E-mail

Imperial will be the site for three separate concealed carry classes coming early next month on Friday and Saturday, April 5-6.
A printable registration form now appears on the Chase3000 website at www.chase3000.com, with an April 2 sign-up deadline set.
Chris Tomky of Lamar is again coordinating the classes, as she did for classes in January. Originally planning for just one class then, a huge response of close to 80 people grew that class to three.
Justin Grusing, who owns and operates Nebraska Shooters in Firth, Neb., will return as the class instructor.
Training such as Grusing offers is the first step in acquiring a concealed carry permit in Nebraska from the Nebraska State Patrol.
Once the class is successfully completed, the participant receives a certificate, which can be submitted to the State Patrol. That agency then takes fingerprints, does a background check and, if the person is cleared, a concealed carry permit is issued.
About 75 percent of Grusing’s class is in the classroom where subjects such as avoiding a criminal attack, safe gun and ammunition handling, proper storage, shooting fundamentals and the law are reviewed. He also goes over gun laws in other states and rules about carrying weapons across state lines.
Outdoor practice that covers handling and target shooting, firing drills and decision-making drills make up the rest of the course.
The classroom portion of the course will be held at the fire hall meeting room above the Imperial police station.
Persons with all levels of shooting ability can take the course, Tomky noted.
Class participants must bring their own equipment, including  an operable handgun, 100 rounds of factory ammo, hearing protection, eye protection, dominant-side holster, sturdy belt/fanny pack or purse, Nebraska driver’s license and case or bag for handgun.
Cost for the class is $125, which should accompany the registration form to be mailed to Tomky at 74072—314 Ave., Champion NE 69023.
Tomky said individuals interested in the April classes will have the choice of either day, but encouraged registering as soon as possible for participants to get the day they want. One class session is planned for Friday and two on Saturday, she said.
