Townsend transfer scholarships available to MCC students PDF Print E-mail

Mid-Plains Community College students planning to transfer on to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Nebraska-Kearney, University of Nebraska-Omaha, or University of Nebraska Medical Center or University of Nebraska-Curtis and graduated from McCook High School or Southwest High School may be eligible for a $4,000 a year Col. Delbert Townsend Transfer Scholarship.
Transfer Scholarships will be awarded to students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors in college. The scholarship can be renewed up to six semesters, depending on grade level and meeting criteria. Students must have a 3.00 grade-point average and an ACT composite score of 24 in order to apply.
Col. Delbert Townsend set up a scholarship program for graduating seniors of Red Willow County high schools several years ago through the University of Nebraska Foundation. This program granted scholarships to two students each year who were going to attend a University of Nebraska college.
Following his death in 2010 and the settlement of his estate, a second transfer scholarship fund was created through the UN Foundation which authorized the Townsend transfer scholarship. That means not only will two more graduating high school seniors be eligible, but so will current college students attending, or transferring to, a UN college for the Fall 2013 semester. This will include two students for each grade level who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors for the Fall 2013 semester.
