As of Tuesday, 32 teams, 10 of them from Imperial, were already confirmed for Saturday’s Imperial Youth Basketball Tournament.
Tourney Coordinator Alex McNair said games will start at 8 a.m. in three locations—the Shorthorn and Longhorn gyms at the school, and the Wellington gym at 10th and Wellington Sts.
The tournament includes fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys’ and girls’ teams from the area, and is set up in a combination of pool play and bracketed divisions, McNair said.
The tournament requires many volunteers, he said. There is still a need for some scorekeepers. Anyone available and interested in that task can contact McNair at 883-1715.
High school players and local adults will serve as referees.
There will be a small admission at the door. Proceeds are used for equipment purchases for the Imperial Youth Basketball Program. Last year, some of the funds from this tournament were used to buy basketballs and racks for the gym.
