Newspaper in Education Week will be observed March 4-8, and The Imperial Republican is inviting Chase County Schools’ grade 4-8 students “to be a reporter.”
It’s the second for the contest sponsored by the newspaper, which invites all fourth through eighth grade students to write a fact-based news story on a local event. Sports stories are excluded.
Any news event in the school or community is welcome, according to staff members. Judging will include how well the story is written, sentence structure and spelling.
A winner in each of the five grade levels, fourth through eighth, will be chosen and receive an Imperial Theatre pass with popcorn special. The winners will also have their stories published in the newspaper’s March 7 issue.
Newspaper staff reserves the right to edit the entries that will be published.
Entries are due to The Imperial Republican office at 622 Broadway by next Friday, March 1, by 9 a.m. MT. Entries can also be emailed to:
Participants should make sure to include name and grade level on the back of their entries.
