Shooting woes end Lady Longhorn season PDF Print E-mail

It came down to shooting.
That’s what ended the Lady Longhorns’ 2012-13 season last week, as they fell 45-23 to Gothenburg in the first round of the C1-11 sub-districts.
Coach Nancy Sorensen said with just five baskets dropping from two-point range for her team, it was hard to win the game played at Lexington High School.
A bright spot for the team was its 67 percent success from the free throw line (10-15), an area in which they’ve struggled this season. Unfortunately, Gothenburg also had a good night at the line, hitting 15 of 22 (68 percent).
Chase County’s Anna Bauerle hit the team’s only trey of the evening, while Gothenburg scored three from beyond the arc.
The Lady Longhorns dug themselves in too deeply in the first quarter, falling behind 17-0 before their first points of the game with just 12 seconds left in the quarter. They trailed 27-11 at the half.
In a bit of a run in the third quarter, Chase County found the Lady Swedes had moved into a stall game.
“That really slowed it down,” Coach Sorensen said.
As the game began to wind down, Chase County was forced to foul. Gothenburg hit six of 10 free throws in the final quarter, furthering their lead.
Coach Sorensen said her team played hard, as they have all season. She said they continued to work throughout the game, and went into the contest with that mindset.
The game ended Chase County’s season at 7-18.
Leading the scoring for Chase County in their finale was Bethany Sorensen with six. Paige Spady and Anna Bauerle each had five.
In other stats, Spady had four steals and six rebounds, Bauerle had three steals and Bridget Langin tallied four rebounds.
