Drought management meeting draws crowd PDF Print E-mail

More than 50 people from throughout the area attended the first of three meetings on how to best manage water resources while farming in drought conditions. The meeting, held in Imperial Monday, was co-sponsored by UNL Extension and DeKalb. The five-hour meeting addressed a variety of subjects including cropping rotations, efficient use of water, soil testing and fertility and residue management. Here, UNL Irrigation Engineer Derrel Martin talks about about average rainfall in Nebraska and its importance in crop production and aquifer recharge. Look for more coverage of the meeting in Johnson Publication’s special section focusing on the grain industry. The section will appear in next week’s paper. (Republican photo)
