It’s an exciting time, especially for parents of their first child entering kindergarten.
Registration for prospective kindergarten students at Chase County Schools is coming this month, according to Elementary Principal Nathan Vitosh.
Two weeks have been set aside for kindergarten registration during the regular school day. Parents can bring in the necessary information, fill out the forms and register their child the week of April 6-9 and April 14-17.
Hours the office will be open for registrations is 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
In addition, school staff will remain late one night, on Thursday, April 16, until 6 p.m.
The following items are needed by parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten at Chase County Schools:
    1) Birth certificate with the raised seal.
    2) Documentation of a physical examination.
    3) Immunization records documented, including varicella (chicken pox).
    4) Vision evaluation, done after Feb. 19, 2009.
    5) Dental examination (strongly recommended).
At the time they register, parents should also plan to pay $1.80 for the child’s lunch on visitation day later this spring.
All prospective kindergartners will be attending school on a special visitation day for them on Friday, May 1.
During that day, they’ll meet the kindergarten teachers and participate in several learning activities.
Parents are also scheduled to attend an informational meeting on May 1, starting after they drop off their child, at 8:45 a.m. It will last about 45 minutes, Vitosh said.
A child must be five years old on or before Oct. 15, 2009, to be eligible for kindergarten in 2009-2010 year.
Letters have gone out to parents whose prospective kindergartners are on the census. Parents not receiving a letter but having an eligible child are asked to contact the school at 882-4228 as soon as possible.
