Imperial Rotary to host Lebanese dinner to support water project PDF Print E-mail

According to a UNICEF report, every day, diarrheal diseases from easily preventable causes claim the lives of approximately 5000 young children throughout the world. Sufficient and better quality drinking water and basic sanitation can cut this toll dramatically, and simple, low-cost household water treatment has the potential to save further lives.
Imperial Rotarians will soon be giving members of the community an opportunity to provide clean drinking water to young students in a school in Saida, Lebanon (ancient Sidon). The water project was started by the Rotary Club of Saida and has since been adopted by the 23 Rotary Clubs in Lebanon.
On Friday, Feb. 22, Rotarians will provide a Lebanese dinner in exchange for a donation of $25 or more. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Parish Hall and will be served by members of Interact, a high school service club associated with Rotary International.
The menu will include chicken shawarmas, a Lebanese fish recipe, pita bread, hummus, cucumber salad, tabouli and a Lebanese-style fruit salad. Tickets are available from any Rotarian member or by phoning Bill Bryan at 308-883-0264.
