In the last meet of the regular season for the Longhorns, Michael May brought home a third place medal and Jake Lueth a fourth.
Chase County finished in 10th place out of twenty-five teams at Saturday’s Southwest High School Tournament. Many of the teams present were junior varsity teams.
After pinning his first two opponents, Michael May faced Tucker Bergquist of Southern Valley in the semi-finals. Bergquist won by pinfall with just three seconds left in the second period.
May dropped into the consolation semi-finals to face two familiar foes. May beat Joey Sheets of Hershey, whom he has faced and defeated several times this season, to advance to the consolation finals.
Tyrell Reichert of Dundy County/Stratton was awaiting May in the finals. Reichert got the best of May in their last meeting, but May turned the tables on him, defeating Reichert 5-2 to take third place.
After a quick pin in his first match, Jake Lueth slipped up against Chris Anderson of Oberlin and got caught shooting in for a takedown with a pinning combination from Anderson. That dropped Lueth into the second round of the consolation bracket.
After pinning wrestlers from Cambridge and Oberlin, Lueth received a forfeit from Jacob Thompson of Hershey to advance to the consolation finals. In a hard fought battle, Lueth took the short end of a 2-6 decision for fourth place.
