A U.S. Postal Inspector from Omaha didn’t want to give much detail, only that the investigation into the reported robbery attempt and alleged assault at the Champion Post Office remains under investigation.
Postal Inspector Dave Margritz said Monday that investigators plan to return to the area within the month to further investigate the Nov. 26 incident.
He said they have no real good leads at this time, but enough to continue to investigate.
Officer-in-Charge at the time, Marjie Buls, was working at the post office Nov. 26 when she said a man entered the building on Champion’s main street and demanded money.
He allegedly held a box cutter to her throat, she reported, but eventually fled. No money was taken.
A $50,000 reward offered by the U.S. Postal Service remains in effect, Margritz said, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the alleged robbery and assault.
Margritz would not comment on the number of calls received to their offices on the incident. He said people with information are encouraged to call 1-877-876-2455.
