Two local residents had the chance to grocery shop as fast as they could in a two-minute shopping spree earlier this month that benefited the Chase County Pantry in Imperial.
In addition, the two lucky winners, Lorna Kunnemann and Elisa Large, who were randomly drawn to do the shopping, each received a $100 Visa gift card.
All the groceries that the two women could pack in their shopping cart in two minutes went to the pantry.
Added to their cart-fuls, Jacci Brown and Kristi McNair, volunteers at the pantry, also shopped alongside each winner, Kunnemann at Super Foods and Large at Hill’s Family Foods. All those groceries went to the pantry, as well.
Pinnacle Bank sponsored the benefit, a first for the effort, said bank employee Michelle Spady.
In all, the groceries from the four carts totaled around $900. The bank wrote checks to the stores.
Spady said the pantry volunteers welcomed the groceries since the shelves were getting low on a number of items, common this time of year.
Starting in mid-November, shoppers at both grocery stores could sign up for the shopping sprees by placing their names in boxes at each location.
