By Jan Schultz The Imperial Republican In less than 24 hours, the 10 vintage Santas found in city storage were sold. City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland, who described them as “really cool,” said they were all sold at $50 each by noon on Thursday. Word of the availability of the Santas and the city’s decision to sell them was noted in last week’s Imperial Republican in a story covering the Dec. 3 city council meeting. All went to local residents, Leyland said, and one was kept for Christmas decorating in the city offices. Leyland noted they even had a call from a former resident in Fort Collins, Colo., on Tuesday this week, who read about them when her paper arrived. “We probably could have sold 10 more,” Leyland said. The Santas were found this summer in the basement of the police office building at the corner of 6th and Broadway. That building formerly housed the city offices. No second council meeting in December As per city ordinance, there is just one city council meeting in December, due to the second meeting’s proximity to Christmas. The meeting would have fallen on Dec. 17, but will not be held. The next meeting will be Jan. 7, 2013.
