They are being offered on Ebay for as much as $124 apiece.
Vintage Santa yard decorations just like ones found in the basement of the police office are apparently sought-after items among collectors of Christmas decorations of old.
While the asking price was more, a yard Santa just like the ones the city has, sold for over $50, City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland told council members Monday.
She wondered what to do with the 10 found when the police basement was being cleaned out this summer.
After a short discussion, it was decided on a 3-0 council vote to give city residents a chance to buy them at $50 each.
All the money from the sales will be donated to the Chase County Food Pantry, rather than returned to the city’s General Fund.
Leyland said there is evidence on some of the Santas that they were used for outdoor display. Some are in the original boxes, however, with the original packing and appear they were never used.
She was unable to find out when and where they were displayed in Imperial. She estimates they are a 1950s-era decoration.
The Santas stand two and a half feet tall and are lighted with three standard outdoor light bulbs.
Anyone interested can stop by the city office. They will be sold on a first come, first served basis, Leyland said.
