A total of 15 golfers will compete for spots on this year’s CCS Longhorn golf team.
Coach Larry Munger will lead the golfers again this year and said he’s looking forward to the season.
The golfers hit the course two and a half weeks ago to prepare for the season. They got a good week of practice in last week when temps ranged in the high 60s and low 70s.
Munger said this will be a year when no one individual golfer will stand out.
Instead, he expects a team effort in each meet with enough depth to get help from the fifth and sixth man.
The team will be led by three seniors—Matt Hayes, Casey Francis and Scott Lakey.
Juniors include Skylar Reinke and Chevy Smith.
Sophomores include Keithan Cochran, Charlie Haarberg and Sean Mandeville.
There are seven freshmen out this year, making it the largest contingent of freshmen in some time, Munger said.
They include Cody Cravey, Adam Dickey, Steven Fish, Ben Heskett, Eric Lakey, Adam Moline and Travis Wheeler.
The team opens the season on Tuesday, April 7. The varsity will play at Bayard and the jayvees will go to Benkelman.
Munger expects his seniors to vie for varsity positions and said the other spots are wide open.
He said Haarberg, Cochran, Fish and Moline have been playing well early. Reinke will also challenge for a varsity role.
North Platte St. Pat’s returns a big share of their team from last year and will be the team to beat in conference and district.
A schedule for the season is as follows:
