A group of Imperial Girl Scouts cleaned up at the Chamber of Commerce popcorn sculpture contest held last Wednesday.
The Scouts from several troops won both the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice awards with a potted sunflower creation in the Oct. 31 competition.
The contest, which challenged individuals and groups to create a sculpture from either popped or unpopped popcorn, drew 16 entries in its third year.
Chamber Promotions Committee member Mary Deyle said the judging was extremely difficult this year with so many good entries which were judged in one division.
Because of that, all entries received $20 in Chamber Bucks, she said. The Girl Scouts also received an additional $25 in Chamber Bucks as Judges’ Choice and another $25 as the People’s Choice winners.
Judges included Sam Kunnemann and Seth Kunnemann representing AK Acres Popcorn, along with Jack Schnieder and Baltazar Ramirez from Trinidad Bean & Elevator Co.
AK Acres and Trinidad Bean also provided the popped popcorn provided to their customers by Chamber businesses all day last Wednesday as part of the Popcorn Day activities.
