There was a festive air about Adams Bank & Trust of Imperial last Friday. Employees and customers were celebrating 40 years of service by the Adams Bank in Imperial.
The Adams’ family banking history began in 1916 with a charter for a state bank in Lemoyne by
G.D. Adams and E.C. Wolf.
The bank was moved to Brule when Lake McConaughy was built, in 1934.
Another bank, in Ogallala, was opened in 1962, followed by the purchase of three more banks, including, in 1971, First National Bank of Imperial.
That bank had a national charter. The Adams changed the name to Chase County Bank & Trust.
Revised banking laws allowed the merger of state banks. All five banks were merged under the common name of Adams Bank & Trust in 1986.
As of this year, there are 10 banks in Nebraska and six in Colorado, as well as loan production offices.
Presidents at the Imperial bank have been John Adams, Doug King, Terry Schutte and the present John Paisley.
