Denise Smith of Imperial has been invited to the bowling tournament before, but this year, decided to make the trip halfway across Nebraska for the “Queen’s Tournament.”
Each year, the top 36 bowlers, determined from their total pins at the state tournament, are invited to the event. Smith earned the invite after a good performance bowling in team, singles and doubles competition at the state tournament in March.
Last Sunday, she traveled to York for the “Queen’s Tournament,” where she finished 19th out of the 36 competitors.
Each participant bowled four scratch games, from which the top 16 advanced to head-to-head competition to determine the “queen.”
Smith tallied 700 pins from games of 201, 148, 186 and 165, good enough for 19th overall.
Smith bowls as part of the Eagles Auxiliary team at Imperial Lanes.
