School’s special education dept. benefits from Tootsie Roll effort PDF Print E-mail

Chase County Schools’ K-8 special education department is the beneficiary of the 2012 Tootsie Roll Drive conducted earlier this year by the Imperial Knights of Columbus Council. On Monday, half of what was raised in the annual drive, or $1,284, was donated to the school by Tom Terryberry, above left, who chaired this year’s drive held in April. Accepting the donation were K-6 Principal Pat Lane, center, and Supt. Brad Schoeppey. Principal Lane said the funds will be used toward the purchase of a Smart Board for the elementary special education department. The other half of what was collected in Imperial will be used by the state Knights of Columbus organization for efforts that benefit such events as Special Olympics. Terryberry noted the annual drive, in the past held during the spring, will be moved to the fall in 2013. Funds are raised both from door-to-door contacts and business contributions.
