Chase County’s cross country teams turned in top three finishes in the Dundy County-Stratton meet held in Benkelman Thursday, Sept. 20.
The boys finished second to DC-S by just four points while the girls finished third in the five-team field.
On Monday, the Longhorn runners ran at the UN-K high school invitational at the Kearney Country Club course. This is the same course used for the state meet Oct. 19.
Zuege said the boys have continued to close in on DC-S since the first meet of the season.
At the DC-S meet, Holden Dreiling, Indy Smith, Andrew Vaverek and Garret Thompson medalled in the boys’ race while Alyssa Moreno medalled in the girls’ race.
Zuege said the Kearney meet draws some of the best runners in each class, making it a good measuring stick for his teams.
It’s a great atmosphere to run in, he said, plus, it gets them on the same course where the state meet is run.
Zuege said the teams will get a week off from meets after running twice in five days at Benkelman and Kearney.
They will be idle until next Thursday, Oct. 4 when they run at Grant in the joint Perkins County/SPVA meet.
Results of the DC-S and UN-K meets are as follows:
