Voter Registration Month good time to check status PDF Print E-mail

September 2012 is National Voter Registration Month as designated by the National Association of Secretaries of State, according to Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale.
“With the national conventions now behind us, it is a good time,” said Gale, “for eligible citizens who will be 18 years of age before Nov. 6 to register to vote, or for those older, to  make sure their registration information is up-to-date.”
Gale added that, “Checking your voter registration is just like having your car serviced. It is easy but important.  Updating voter registration information is critical for people who have recently moved, changed their name, or had their voting rights restored under the law,” he said.
“Despite record-breaking registration and voter turnout levels for many states, including Nebraska, for the November 2008 presidential election, six million potential voters didn’t cast a ballot because they missed a voter registration deadline or didn’t know how to register to vote”, according to Gale.
The secretary of state’s website ( provides a voter registration form and a look-up tool that allows voters to verify their registration status. People can also check with your county election official.
