Hup! Hup! Hup! rang throughout the Chase County Fairgrounds Monday as the annual Fanning Auction’s Labor Day Auction commenced. For the most part, three rings of auctioneers sold consignment items from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Over 1,000 numbers were issued during the day. Bidders use the numbers to claim their buys.
Karen Fanning said buyers and sellers came from Iowa, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota and Texas, as well as from Nebraska, for the event.
Although it might have seemed that there was less furniture offered this year than in the past, Fanning said it was spread out over the lot, rather than gathered in the livestock arena as in the past.
“It was hot, so it affected the crowd some,” she added. The weather was comfortable in the morning, but reached the high 90s by the afternoon.
