Two Bayard children whose house caught fire in December recently received blankets made by the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Rebecca Koellner of the Auxiliary traveled to Bayard March 1 to give the blankets to Daemon and Xzeries, sons of Crystal Crider.
According to Stephanie Dalby of the Bayard Fire Department, Crider was renting a house that didn’t have insurance when a fire apparently started in a ceiling light fixture on Dec. 6, 2008. The house and furnishings sustained smoke damage, and some furniture was destroyed.
Crider has rented another house in town.
The IVFD Auxiliary began making the fleece blankets about a year ago. The purpose is to give comfort along with the blankets to children displaced by a house fire.
Koellner said five blankets have been distributed so far. They are distributed across the state as needed.
The blankets are funded by donations from the IVFD, individuals and the Auxiliary.
