It was a scramble, indeed PDF Print E-mail

Fair organizers called it a “Barnyard Scramble” and it was exactly that on Tuesday afternoon at the Chase County Fair. Kids from toddlers to age 12 could take part in the event. Kids were cut loose to go after and catch chickens, ducks, pigs and goats.  Kids bolted off the starting line to go after their catch. Below left, fairboard member Trish Dorn interviews one of the youngsters who caught a chicken. Kids do their darnedest to get a grip on the greased pig. The pig won that battle. All of the participants got a small prize, regardless of whether they match a catch or not. Word has it that a stray chicken has been spotted around town since fair. Wonder if one of the chickens “scrambled” its way out of the arena, taking its chance on the streets, alleys and backyards of Imperial. (Republican photos)
