The second annual Take Pride in Imperial city cleanup didn’t attract any groups volunteering to help.
However, the Chamber of Commerce provided 23 volunteers who picked up trash on Highway 6 Aug. 1.
In two hours the crew picked up 500 pounds of trash between Alco and the Imperial Inn, and on 12th Street from the highway to the football field.
City crews have been busy painting curbs and parking lines, City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland said. She added that there are no other plans for organized volunteering now.
Last Saturday the city’s transfer station was open for a free dump day. A total of 24,023 pounds of trash was accepted.
That included 37 tires. One hundred one people took advantage of the free day.
Take Pride in Imperial is in part designed to clean up the town in anticipation of the Chase County Fair.
