Sweet corn fundraiser to aid 4-H club with fair-time hot dog feeds PDF Print E-mail

Members of the newly-organized Chase County Stockmen 4-H Club were busy last Friday selling sweet corn at two locations in Imperial. That morning and afternoon, club members were out in Rod Johnson’s Pioneer Seed cornfield picking the fresh ears for sale. Members said proceeds from the sales will be used to put on a hot dog feed at 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 15-16, of fair week after the livestock shows those two days. The feed will be for 4-H and FFA families, said Club Leader Amy Gittlein, who noted that buying food each day at the fair gets expensive for families involved in the many youth activities. They were hoping to sell at least 1,000 ears. Making a sale to Jane Lenners, above, were club members Shandra Johnson and Regan Gittlein. Stephen Johnson was keeping count of the ears in the back of the pickup. (Republican photo)
