Business windows are being painted with welcome messages.
Flowers and the access areas are being spruced up at the fairgrounds.
And, ticket chairmen Larry and Jeanette Munger are gearing up for the big rush in ticket sales, not only for the evening shows, but for other popular fair events, too.
On Tuesday, Larry Munger reported that more than 20 percent of tickets for both show nights have been sold.
The Travis Tritt/Hunter Hayes country music show on Friday, Aug. 17, is slightly ahead of Saturday with 21.3 percent sold.
For the Saturday, Aug. 18, shows, 20.4 percent of tickets for Brian Howe, former lead singer with Bad Company, and Theory of a Deadman were sold.
Munger said the Internet represents the largest venue for ticket sales, with a heavy response early on when tickets first go on sale in late June.
Internet sales have continued steady through July, as the “Buy in July” promotion is conducted, which offered a $5 discount per ticket, and an additional $5 for groups of 10 tickets purchased.
During the week of fair, most of the sales are done on-site, Munger said, but Internet and phone sales continue at a good pace, too.
The ticket office will move to the fairgrounds on Monday, Aug. 6.
Phone sales represent the second most popular way tickets are purchased, with a small percentage of sales still using the U.S. mail.
In addition to the show Aug. 17-18 tickets, the ticket office also presells tickets for the Imperial Jaycees 24th annual demolition derby on Thursday, Aug. 16, and for the mega-ride carnival pass, which is good for unlimited carnival riding from Aug. 15-18.
The ticket office can be reached by phone at 308-882-5260 or 1-800-472-3247, and by email at
The ticket brochure with a mail-in form is available at several area businesses.
More campsites added
One other item the Mungers coordinate through the ticket office are reservations for the campsites on the north end of the fairgrounds.
At the request of the fair board, the city of Imperial installed 12 new campsites this year for a total of 81 now available on the grounds.
Munger said they have a few of the campsites with 50-amp service still available for fair week. Campers are charged one fee for the entire week.
