Chase County Schools’ cheerleaders were big award  winners at the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) camp in Denver, July 12-14.
Cheer Co-Sponsor Jacci Paisley said the team received two outstanding ribbons on the performance of their cheer and chant.
In addition, they were presented a Spirit Stick every day of camp, which signifies sincere spirit and enthusiasm while exhibiting great attitude, promptness, cooperation, positive relationships with other squads and leadership.
The CCS team also was awarded the Most Improved Trophy. By receiving that, it gives the girls an opportunity to travel to one of the NCA special nationwide events, including the Christmas Extravaganza in Florida, where the girls would have a chance to perform in the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade.
Paisley also noted the CCS cheerleaders also received a bid to attend nationals in Dallas.
Paisley said they have not yet made a decision on whether to attend the national events.
Individually, team member Suzy Kasselman was one of the five girls on the CCS team nominated to try out for All-Cheerleader and was chosen an All-American nominee. That allows her to travel to an event of her choice, such as Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade or the New Year’s Day Parade in London.
Besides Kasselman, CCS cheerleaders who attended camp were Mallory Coleman, Abby Lopez, Rachelle Carmin, Charlie Ann Carter, Janessa Haarberg, Jessica Hartman, Blair Hartman, Bridget Langin, Emily Owens,
Cheerleaders unable to attend were Ally Vrbas and Claire Kuenne.
Alyssa Stanley also attended camp with the CCS group. She will be serving as a volunteer sponsor next year. Audrey Meeske is also a co-sponsor with the team.
