Local athletes ‘tri’ing to be healthy PDF Print E-mail

Several Imperial teams in Holyoke competition

Triathlon athletes were greeted with sunny conditions Saturday morning, July 14 as they began the 8th annual Amateur Triathlon in Holyoke, Colo.
The Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation Amateur Triathlon drew in five teams and 11 individuals for competition. The teams and individuals were challenged to bike four miles, run two miles and swim six laps. The event is hosted annually to enhance the quality of life for all who are wanting to be healthier.
Team Brandt Chiropractic, comprised of Jerry Brandt, A.J. Brandt and Dani Brandt, boasted the fastest time of 40:11.  
Chase County Hospital #2, Dustin Harris, Francisca Morales and Shannon Kuhlmann placed second with a time of 45:58.
Other teams competing were Chase County Hospital #1, Jessica Skomp, Heather Schoenholz and Diane Zwickl, third, 47:12; RD’s Wild Bunch IV, Tiffany Watson, Tammy Kroeger and Tara Krueger, fourth, 52:41; and Chase County Hospital #3, Linda Nelson, Melisa Vanderford and Larissa Gerhartz, fifth, 53:09.
The top individual was Shane Gerhartz.
Individual results were as follows:
Adults 19-44 age division: Shane Gerhartz, first, 41:23; Tracy Trumper, second, 44:13; Jonetta Anderson, third, 44:39; Veronica Murillo, fourth, 52:21; Marilyn McDaniel, fifth, 53:57; Sherry Silvester, sixth, 59:11; and Deb Spohn, seventh, 66:41.
Seniors 45-54 age division: Jerry Brandt, first, 50:35; and Brenda Krueger, second, 55:17.
Masters 55 and older age division: Pete Markle, first, 43:28; and Larry Stein, second, 67:56.
