The Chase County Progressive Agriculture Safety Day is just around the corner. The event, open to youths ages 6-14 years as of July 1, is scheduled for July 21 at the Chase County Fairgrounds in Imperial.
As of Tuesday, about 50 youths had pre-registered. Organizer Chris Tomky said the event, held the last several years, usually draws 120 youth.
The Chase County All-Stars 4-H Club sponsors the day, during which youth view demonstrations, participate in hands-on learning and discuss what they learn.
The youth rotate between stations that include grain dangers; chemical look-alikes; fire safety; ATVs; electrical dangers and more.
Katy Meister of San Jose, Calif., author of the “Katy the Safety Lady” books, will be on hand to discuss Internet safety.
Kristi Ruth, an Iowa teenager who nearly lost her arm in a PTO accident, will share her personal story  related to farm safety.
Ruth attended the first Safety Day in 2009.
The cost per child is $7, which includes lunch, snacks, a T-shirt, instructors and a take-home bag of safety materials.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
Registration forms are available at the schools, newspaper offices and the Extension office. The Chase 3000 website also has a link to registration forms.
Tomky appreciates registrations before Farm Safety Day, but youth may register that day.
