Area men interested in playing on Imperial’s wood bat baseball team this summer should attend an organizational meeting next Wednesday, March 18.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the city council meeting room.
Imperial Crush played in the Nebraska Baseball Association High Plains League last season in its first year, completing a 14-game schedule with an 8-6 record.
They expect to be in the same league this year, and will know more after a March 28 meeting in Chappell when games will be scheduled.
Matt Jablonski served as the team’s player/coach last year, and is encouraging anyone interested in playing on the team to attend next week’s meeting.
All games in the league are played with wood bats and are nine innings.
The league is generally for players who are beyond the age of competing in Legion baseball. However, if a community does not have a senior Legion team, those Legion-age players can play on the wood bat team.
It’s set up that way, according to state director Rick Baxter of Lincoln, so as not to infringe upon or compete with the Legion baseball programs in the same community.
Last year, Imperial’s season opened Memorial Day weekend. Imperial will play its 2009 home games again at Campbell field.
