It’s a bit unusual seeing a wild turkey around town, but this one spotted Monday certainly wasn’t looking for straw. With temperatures eclipsing 100 degrees, it was likely seeking shade, which it found on the steps at the Joel Burke home at the corner of 9th and Wellington Sts. People in the neighborhood said the turkey was on the steps about an hour. While the bird was being photographed, it went up to the door more than once, maybe knowing it was even cooler inside and hoping for an invite. (Republican photo)
