Holyoke’s Ballyneal course rates another top ranking PDF Print E-mail
Ballyneal Golf and Hunt Club in Holyoke, Colo., has been ranked the 53rd best golf course in the world by “Top 100 Golf Courses,” the only independent website dedicated to the top golf courses of the world.
The UK-based website’s ranking system is derived from existing golf publication rankings coupled with ratings from reviewers who have played the courses
Top 100 Courses not only ranks the top courses in the world but also the top in the USA. To go along with ranking 53rd best course in the world, Ballyneal ranks 27th in the USA, and as the best course in Colorado.
There are more than 32,000 golf courses in the world, so a ranking of 53rd in the world places Ballyneal in very elite company.
Some of the courses ranked higher than Ballyneal include historic golf courses such as: Pine Valley, Cypress Point, Pebble Beach, the Old Course at St. Andrews, Shinnecock Hills, Seminole, Augusta National, and Carnoustie.
Top 100 Golf Courses is not the only group to recognize Ballyneal, which was ranked 13th on Golfweek’s 2008 Best Modern Course list, fourth on Golfweek’s Best New Courses 2005-2007 list 82nd on Golf Magazine’s Top 100 in the World list, and was Travel + Leisure Golf’s Best New Course in 2006.
Ballyneal Golf and Hunt Club is located in the sand hills of northeastern Colorado, just outside of Holyoke. The specific area is referred to by locals as the chop hills due to the unique characteristics of the dunes.
Ballyneal boasts an 18-hole links course designed by renowned architect Tom Doak. In keeping with the traditions of the game, Ballyneal is a walking-only course with caddies.
The course plays firm and fast at 7,130 yards with a par of 71.
Ballyneal Hunt Club also offers members access to 4,000 acres of prime upland game bird hunting, national championship gun dogs, and professional guides. Dozens of varieties of birds abound, dominated by the trophy ring-neck pheasant. Ballyneal includes the clubhouse, a restaurant and three lodges with private suites.
