|Funding still available for home renovations in target area here|
The city of Imperial has been leading a cooperative effort to provide some needed renovation to homes in a targeted area within the city.
The city was awarded Community Development Block Grant funding provided by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development a couple years ago, and leveraged this funding in a partnership with USDA Rural Development to assist the families.
The housing program, referred to as Owner Occupied Rehab, provides families living at a moderate to low income level who own their homes, a financial resource to complete renovation work such as new windows, doors, siding, roofing, heating systems and insulation.
Where the homeowner falls in the Area Medium Income will decide if the dollar amount of assistance is a “forgivable loan” with no repayment necessary as long as the families maintain the property as their primary residence or if the loan will be paid back over the next 10 years at 0% interest.
Families can qualify for assistance from both organizations allowing extensive work to be accomplished to their homes. Homes can receive up to $24,500 in housing assistance.
The city has targeted to assist eight homes, and has succeeded in assisting six families thus far.
The city of Imperial continues to accept applications for the rehab program. Applications for the program can be picked up at the city office or call the city of Imperial at 308-882-4368.
The city office can also be contacted to see if a home is in the targeted area.
