Darrin Schultz hired as Imperial summer rec director PDF Print E-mail
Darrin Schultz will serve as summer recreation director for the city of Imperial for 2009.
Members of the Imperial park and tree commission discussed his hiring at their Feb. 3 meeting.
In the position, Schultz will coordinate the summer baseball and softball programs. His duties will include setting up the teams and coaches, scheduling games and practice times, ordering and distributing equipment to teams, hiring umpires and lining the fields for games.
The position also has some oversight of the city’s soccer program.
Schultz is completing his sophomore year at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley. He is a social sciences major with emphasis in secondary education.
The 20-year-old is part of the UNC President’s Leadership Program and is on the Campus Catholic Ministry leadership team.
He has been a regular umpire in city of Imperial leagues for several years, has played on Imperial baseball teams for 14 years and played a year of college baseball at UNC.
Schultz will be home from college in early May. He will also be in Imperial for a week in March during UNC’s spring break and expects to begin work on some duties at that time.
Ryan Wisnieski served as summer recreation director in 2008, and chose not to reapply for the position this year. The park board then opened the job up to other applicants.
Signup for the summer ball teams is now underway for Imperial-sponsored teams. Registrations for the traveling teams are due March 2 to avoid late fees. Forms for the non-traveling teams are due April 30.
Registration forms are now available at the city offices, school, Super Foods and Hill’s Family Foods, and should be returned to the city office.
