For the first time in a number of years, Imperial played host Saturday to a youth basketball tournament.
The 2009 Longhorn Basketball Tournament was organized by Jill and Brad Moline.
Both Molines said the tournament went off really well and they were pleased with all the volunteers who helped make the tournament a success.
A total of 27 teams competed in five different divisions with teams from Imperial, Grant, Dundy County, Trenton, Hershey, Southwest, McCook and Alliance.
Brad Moline said the teams were impressed with the facilities used for the tournament.
These included the Wellington gym, the Shorthorn gym and the Longhorn gym, which was split into two courts.
He praised the school for their cooperation and for getting the facilities ready for the games, which ran from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m.
Boys’ winners included the McCook 4th grade, the Imperial 5th grade, the Alliance 6th grade, and the Dundy County 7th grade.
In girls action, Dundy County swept all three divisions, winning the 5th, 6th and 7-8 grade tournaments.
Money raised during the event will be used to fund the youth basketball program and entry fees for Imperial teams attending other tournaments.
