Beginning March 2 the Southwest Four Extension Service will have a new agriculture educator. Robert Tigner, presently an Area Farm Management Specialist for Iowa State University Extension Service, has been hired to replace the late Tom Dill.
Tigner was originally a farmer who decided to make a career change. He was a county Dairy and Livestock Agent for the University of Wisconsin Extension Service prior to his present position, which he has held for 10 years.
He currently lives and works in Chickasaw County, Iowa, and serves 10 northeast Iowa counties.
“A lot of my work of late has been in the farm bill, farm marketing and women’s farm management education,” he said.
Tigner has had Master Gardener training and has arranged Master Gardener training while interim Ag Director in Chickasaw County.
As Ag Educator for Southwest Four, Tigner will provide education about pesticides, chemicals, farm/ranch management, cow/calf operations and youth projects, among others.
The position had been vacant since Dill’s death almost two years ago.
