Heart disease is the number one killer of women.
With that in mind, the annual Women’s Healthy Heart Luncheon will be held Feb. 5 at First United Methodist Church in Imperial.
A heart-healthy lunch will be served, followed by Traci Hoatson, a Family Nurse Practitioner with the Nebraska Heart Institute in North Platte, who will speak on “Women and Heart Disease.”
Hoatson has been a nurse practitioner in cardiology for seven years. She said she wants to bring awareness of the disease to women, as well as educating them in ways to prevent it.
In addition to the meal and speech, which run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Chase County Community Hospital is offering blood pressure screening and a BMI, or body mass index, screening.
The meal, catered by Imperial Super Foods, will consist of two beef and one pork entrees, vegetables and new potatoes, two desserts, a salad and muffins.
The event is free to the public. Door prizes will be awarded. The first 125 women who register will also receive a prize. Registration can be made by calling (308) 882-7371.
A free will donation will be taken to cover the expenses of the meal, which is sponsored by the hospital, Imperial Beef and Imperial Super Foods.
