Chase County will be taking two wrestlers to the state tournament this week at the Qwest Center in Omaha. Keithan Cochran and Jeremiah Lueth both came home with runner-up medals from the C-4 District tournament in Valentine.
Wrestling is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 17, for Class B and C. Cochran will be participating in the 119 pound division while Lueth will participate in the 140 pound class.
Cochran (27-7) will face James Drake (38-7) of Cone-stoga. He will be joined by two familiar faces from last  year in Skyler Teten of Syracuse and Lake Thompson of Battle Creek. Last year Cochran defeated Teten in his consolation semi-finals 7-6 to advance to the third and fourth place match.
Thompson defeated Cochran in the second round last year 4-11 as well as in the consolation finals 2-8. Maybe this year will find some redemption for Cochran.
Jeremiah Lueth (31-7) will face Tatem Fowlkes (27-9) of Newman Grove/Lindsay HF. None of Lueth’s opponents from last year will be returning in the 140 pound division.
Hitchcock County/Wauneta-Palisade will be taking two wrestlers. 189 pound Keagan Haarberg (40-5) will face Eric Draper (28-15) of Raymond Central. 285 pound Alex Pollman (19-5) will face John Tomasek (34-10) of Oakland-Craig.
Perkins County qualified four wrestlers for the state tourney. 103 pound Austin Thelander (17-11) will face Aaron Hueftle (25-12) of Eustis-Farnam, 112 pound Garrett Toner (17-11) faces Mason Glause (29-13) of Malcolm, 140 pound Christian Miyamoto (21-13) faces Kalan Swertzic (27-10) of Fullerton and heavyweight Vinny Ross (22-10) will face Kayne Daudt (26-12) of Plainview.
