|Disaster fee refunds available|
The Farm Service Agency (FSA) has announced the capability for farmers to request refunds of disaster fees associated with permanent disaster programs for situations affected by legislated technical corrections in Public Law 110-398.
State Executive Director, Milton Rogers indicated that these corrections apply to how Risk Management Purchase Requirements are applied to grazed acres and crop acreages that comprise a small portion of a farmer’s operation.
“Farmers that have crops in either of these two categories should contact their local FSA Service Center for additional details,” stated Rogers.
Possible refunds apply only to the fees paid to the FSA for 2008 crop eligibility and for 2009 Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) fees. Refunds of these specific fees can affect a farmer’s possible disaster benefits.
“It is important that farmers make an informed decision before requesting an eligible refund,” Rogers said. Obtaining a refund removes that crop from the calculation of benefits in the affected disaster program.
