January is National Blood Donor Month, and next week Chase County Schools will be holding a Red Cross blood drive in the high school gym.
Local donors are being sought for the drive, which will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
Appointments are now being taken by School Nurse Angie Paisley at 882-4228. Walk-ins will also be welcomed, she said.
Each year, 5 million patients in the United States need blood transfusions. A patient needs blood about every 2 seconds.
The nation’s blood supply is especially vulnerable during the winter months, according to Red Cross officials, due to inclement weather, seasonal illness and busy schedules.
Paisley noted that donors not only support the bloodmobile efforts, but also support the CCS scholarship program by donating at the school’s blood drive.
