Volleyball teams from the western part of Nebraska didn’t fare too well at the state volleyball tournament in Grand Island last week.
Southwest, an area team on Chase County’s schedule, did the best with a fourth place finish.
After winning their first match, Southwest lost to the eventual C2 champions, Lutheran High Northeast, in the semi-finals. In the consolation match for third, Southwest lost to Thayer Central, ending their season at 26-7.
Bridgeport, also in the C2 tourney, lost its first round to Thayer Central. They finished at 21-10.
Sutherland, in the D1 tournament, dropped its first match to top-seeded Exeter-Milligan, who went on to take the D1 state championship. Sutherland finished the season at 15-17.
Wallace, one of just three undefeated state tourney teams, was upset in its first round match by Dodge in straight sets. Wallace ended the season at 25-1.
Ogallala, competing in C1 this season, also suffered a bit of an upset in their first match last Thursday, losing to Columbus Scotus in three straight. The Lady Indians finished the season with a 29-7 record.
Gering, also a western Nebraska team, lost its first round match in Class B, finishing at 23-7.
