A new “shop at home” promotion will become evident in Imperial soon, as yard signs pop up around town, and posters featuring “a hands-on effort” appear in store windows.
The new signs, according to City of Imperial Economic Development Director Leslie Carlholm, represent both a “thank you” to the community and an educational aspect.
“The main thing is businesses want to thank their customers,” she said. “Imperial is unique in that it understands the importance of shopping at home. Obviously you can’t get everything you want, but whenever possible people support local businesses.”
Carlholm said shopping at home “also allows the community to get a lot of great things done.”
The campaign is financed by funds from the city sales tax. It is overseen by representatives of the Chamber of Commerce promotions committee. However, Carlholm was quick to point out that all businesses in town, not just chamber members, are included.
“Our focus is making sure between now and the end of the year on thanking the community and what it allows local businesses and the economy to do,” she stated.
The yard signs will be going up around town next week. The posters have already been distributed.
This is the third year Imperial has vigorously campaigned for shopping at home during the holiday season.
