Area residents are being asked to recognize the importance of the dry edible bean industry in the area through the Imperial Chamber of Commerce’s “Bean Day.”
Nine plastic pigs are located at area businesses. They contain beans, and the public is being asked to estimate the number.
Chairman Don Newman said the person closest to guessing the right amount at each location will receive bags of dry beans.
The beans were contributed by Trinidad Benham.
The pigs are located at the three banks, the Imperial Credit Union, The Imperial Republican, the two grocery stores, McNair Agency, Inc. and Alco.
The overall winner will receive $25 in Chamber bucks.
Another aspect of “Bean Day” is a recipe contest. Recipe entries were to have been submitted to The Imperial Republican by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
The winner of that contest will receive Chamber bucks.
